DMAIC is the methodology used to eliminate and control non value added waste. It describes the overarching principles in Lean project management and consists of 5 phases: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control.
This sketchnote looks at the second phase : MEASURE
Once you have defined your problem/project. You need to quantify the problem. This is done in the ‘measure’ phase, where you need to collate data and visualise the process in detail in order to :
- Determine how the process currently performs (as-is) and establish a baseline.
- Identify all the key inputs, outputs, decision points and bottlenecks.
- Plot the data vs time.
- Examine the impact of process changes against the baseline
My next sketchnote will look at the third DMAIC phase : ANALYSE
